In October of 1993, Eric was working for Los Angeles Hebrew High School's weekend program at Camp Ramah in Ojai, California. Jennifer was also at camp that weekend working with a Ramah children's weekend.
Prior to the weekend, Jennifer was talking to a friend who happened to be in Eric's fraternity. When this friend found out Jennifer was going to be at Ramah for the weekend he told her that Eric would also be there and suggested that she should meet Eric.
After arriving camp Jennifer found a friend, Chantal who also knew Eric. She introduced the two for the first time! After chatting for a few minutes they parted ways. Eric then turned around to his co-councilor (Who happened to be Chantal's cousin) and said, "Wow, she's pretty cute". While Jennifer and Chantal were walking away, Jennifer turned to her and said, "WOW! He's pretty cute!" (Yes, it's corny, and it gets cornier but we are not making this up!)
Later in the evening a bunch of single counselors, including Jennifer, Chantal and Eric, were relationship bashing. Eric really hates that, so he said to Jennifer, "Well, I'm an exception" and she said, "me too!" To which Eric replied, "Cool! Let's get married!" Jennifer's response was, "O.K."
The weekend was great, except that Eric and Jennifer did not work for the same group, so they didn't get to see much of each other. Towards the end of the weekend Jennifer was hanging out with some other friends and Eric figured maybe she didn't like him (He was wrong!). So when the weekend was over they went home without phone numbers or anything.
A few days later Eric received a phone call and it was Jennifer!! It turned out she had talked to Eric's Fraternity brother and told him she was engaged to Eric. The friend figured he should give her Eric's phone number! Well, they spoke several times and Eric thought things were great until he realized that he had made the last several phone calls and she owed him! Eric was upset and figured Jennifer didn't like him, again. So, he thought he would give her the phone test. . . would she call? . . . Nope! So, he gave up.
In the middle of March Eric got a phone call and it was Jennifer! She told him things were really hectic with school and apologized for not calling him sooner. Eric trusted her because she seamed like a trustworthy person. For the next several nights they talked for hours and hours. One of the phone calls even lasted 284 minutes! Long distance! They didn't care.
Eric invited Jennifer to a fraternity party of his one week later, and she went! The night of the party Eric asked Jennifer to his fraternity formal, one month later. Jennifer also asked Eric to her sorority formal. They both accepted the invitations - and Eric and Jennifer have been together ever since!
